Their story
The Katsaros family has been distilling in Tyrnavos, in Greece's Thessaly region, for generations. In 1856 they became the first family authorized by the young Greek state to produce and sell their spirit under the name Ouzo Tirnavou.
For about a century the family sold mainly to local customers. After 1965 their bottles began reaching the rest of Greece and other countries, and since 1992 they have been sold in Greek duty free shops. The company today operates as Katsaros Nikolaos & Co.
How it's made
The family still makes its ouzo and Tsipouro of Tyrnavos using traditional recipes at its distillery outside town on the road to Larissa. Several of its spirits have won medals at international competitions.
Why we carry them
We like Katsaros for a taste of Greek distilling with deep family roots. Pour the ouzo over ice with a splash of water and some meze on the side.
