Their story

Kiki & Juan is named for the two people behind it. Kiki finds organic vineyards through friends and growers in Spain, and Juan, a winemaker with the Oregon label OVUM, turns that fruit into low-intervention wine. The project celebrates the small-plot farmers of Utiel-Requena, inland from Valencia.

Utiel-Requena is one of Spain's early appellations, a warm, dry, high plateau where vines grow near 1,000 meters on river rock, clay and limestone. Its signature red grape, Bobal, is widely planted but often overlooked, and Kiki & Juan builds its wines around old Bobal vines.

The wines come in liter bottles meant for the table: a red, a white and an orange wine.

How it's made

Fruit comes from old, high-elevation vines farmed organically. The wines ferment with native yeasts in cement, amphora and stainless steel, with nothing added except a little sulfur. The red is mostly Bobal, while the white and orange are Macabeo with varying amounts of skin contact.

Why we carry them

We love a liter that drinks this easily. The red is juicy and bright, the kind of bottle you open for pizza night and finish.
