Their story
Kokoro is the tequila brand of Howard Cao, whose multicultural upbringing shaped a label that blends Mexican craft with Japanese ideas of balance. The name is a Japanese word that links heart, mind and spirit, with no neat English translation.
The tequila is made in the Highlands of Jalisco at Destiladora Bonanza (NOM 1604), drawing on more than 140 years of tequila tradition, under the guidance of maestra tequilera Rocío Rodríguez.
How it's made
Kokoro uses 100 percent blue Weber agave from the Jalisco Highlands. The agave is slow cooked in brick ovens, crushed with a stone tahona, fermented in open pine vats with native yeast and distilled in copper pot stills.
Why we carry them
We like Kokoro's Plata for its bright, cooked-agave flavor; it is a tequila made to be shared, neat or in a simple paloma.
