Their story
Lagavulin sits in the small village of the same name on the south coast of Islay, the Scottish island famous for peaty whisky. The distillery officially dates to 1816, when John Johnston and Archibald Campbell Brooks built distilleries on the site.
Today Lagavulin is owned by Diageo. Its 16 year old is one of the best-known single malts in the world, and a Distillers Edition is finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
How it's made
Lagavulin is distilled slowly in pear-shaped copper pot stills, two for the wash and two for the spirit. The whisky matures in bourbon and sherry casks before bottling.
Why we carry them
We think Lagavulin 16 is a benchmark for smoky Scotch, rich and deep, and worth knowing for any whisky lover.
