Their story
LastObject is a Copenhagen company started in 2016 by siblings Isabel and Nicolas Aagaard, whose family is behind the jewelry maker Trollbeads, together with Kåre Frandsen. While looking into ocean plastic, they kept coming back to one small culprit: the cotton swab.
Their answer, the LastSwab, launched in 2019 after a crowdfunding campaign drew more than 19,000 backers. The range has since grown to reusable tissues and cotton rounds, and LastSwab was shown at London's Design Museum in its 2020 Designs of the Year exhibition.
How it's made
Each product is designed as a durable, washable alternative to a disposable item, so one object can stand in for many single-use ones. The swabs come in compact carrying cases, and the company partners with Plastic Bank, a social enterprise focused on recycling.
Why we carry them
We like LastObject because it solves a small, daily waste problem in a well-designed way. A LastSwab is an easy first step for anyone trying to cut back on single-use plastic at home.
