Their story
Lautus is the work of Reg Holder, a South African winemaker trained in viticulture and enology. The idea came from home: during his wife's first pregnancy she wanted a non-alcoholic option that still tasted like serious wine.
In 2017 Holder launched Lautus as South Africa's first de-alcoholised wine. His goal from the start was to match the complexity and finesse of premium wine, and the bottles are now found in shops and restaurants across South Africa.
How it's made
The team walks vineyards across South Africa's warm, dry growing areas and picks sites that give aromatic, balanced fruit. The finished wines are de-alcoholised to below 0.5% alcohol, with flavor compounds captured during the process and returned to the wine. Holder deliberately stops short of 0.0% to keep more of the original flavor.
Why we carry them
We recommend Lautus to anyone who wants the taste of a real glass of wine without the alcohol. It is a thoughtful choice for dinner parties where not everyone is drinking.
