Their story
Legally Addictive started in New York City in 2015, when Laura Shafferman was laid off from a decade-long job in real estate marketing and barred from the industry for a year. She turned to baking crackers topped with toffee and chocolate and began selling them at holiday markets in Chelsea and Williamsburg.
She later teamed up with her husband, Seth Eisman, a former television producer whose credits include Chopped. The business grew slowly on credit cards and side jobs, and it is now based in the Asheville area of North Carolina.
How it's made
Each cookie starts with a cracker, such as a saltine or graham, topped with toffee and chocolate and baked. Shafferman's aim was a shelf-stable version made with better ingredients than the homemade kind.
I figured out that nobody was actually making this product anywhere else, or selling it with shelf stability
Why we carry them
We think the salty-sweet crunch of these cracker cookies makes them hard to put down, which the name gives away. Set out a box at your next gathering.
