Their story
The Lemorton family has been making Calvados in the Domfront area of Normandy for six generations, and today Didier Lemorton runs the farm. It is a small place, about nine acres of old orchards.
Domfront is the corner of Normandy known for pear-based Calvados, and the Lemortons lean into that tradition, with far more pear trees than apple in their orchards.
How it's made
The family grows tall, old-style trees in grassy orchards, with roughly seven pear trees for every three apple, and gathers fruit as it falls. The cider ages at least 11 months in large old casks before a single pass through a traveling column still that Didier oversees himself. The spirit then rests in old French oak, and blends can contain up to 80% pear.
Why we carry them
We like Lemorton for showing how different Calvados tastes when pears take the lead. It is lighter and more floral than apple-heavy styles and makes a lovely after-dinner pour.
