Their story

L'Epicurien is run by brothers Xavier and Benoît Gandon, who took over the business from their uncle. He had started making jams for his delicatessen in Paris.

In the 1990s the brothers moved production south to the Hérault, near Lodève in the Languedoc. Today a team of about 30 makes more than 300 jams, chutneys, sauces and savory spreads, and Xavier develops new recipes that the whole staff tastes before they go out. Their cheese confits, such as fig and walnut, are a fixture at French fine food shops.

How it's made

Everything is cooked by hand in open cauldrons, so water evaporates naturally and cooking time shifts with each harvest. They use whole, unfrozen fruit with cane sugar and natural pectin, and the jams carry 55 to 75 percent fruit with no filler fruit or apple puree.

Everything is produced by hand

Why we carry them

We love L'Epicurien confits on a cheese board, a fig and walnut spoonful next to a good blue or aged sheep's milk cheese is hard to beat.
