Their story
Les Athlètes du Vin was launched in 2016 by Fabrice Gendrot, who now runs it with Francis del Tedesco. Rather than owning vineyards, it works as a négociant, buying grapes from growers along the Loire.
The fruit comes from members of Vini Be Good, a collective of natural-minded Loire producers, which lets the label offer approachable wines from across the valley at fair prices.
How it's made
Grapes are hand-harvested from sustainably farmed vineyards and fermented with native yeasts. The wines age in steel, concrete or wood and are bottled unfined and unfiltered, with only small sulfur additions when needed. The range focuses on Chenin Blanc, Pineau d'Aunis, Grolleau, Gamay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Why we carry them
We think Les Athlètes du Vin is one of the easiest ways into natural Loire wine. The Pineau d'Aunis is a peppery, light red that is great with a slight chill.
