Their story

Les Cousins de Javernand comes from Château de Javernand in Chiroubles, one of the highest of the Beaujolais crus. The château dates to the late 18th century, and the same family has run the estate since 1917.

Today cousins Arthur Fourneau and Mathilde Pénicaud lead the domaine, with help in the cellar from Mathilde's husband, Pierre Prost. They farm about 60 hectares and aim to keep the character of Chiroubles front and center.

How it's made

The family farms its own vineyards around Chiroubles and makes wine in the traditional way handed down since their grandfather bought the property. The range includes Chiroubles bottlings such as Les Gatilles and a Mâcon Blanc under the Cousins label.

Why we carry them

We like these wines for their bright, fresh take on Gamay at a friendly price. Chiroubles is a great entry point to the Beaujolais crus.
