- Jalisco
Their story
Azulejos tequila began with two best friends, Pedro Quintanilla and Alfredo Miguel, and is the flagship of their company, Azul Imports, which has been in business for more than 30 years. Pedro has since passed away, and his wife Linda and son Chris now lead the company.
The name comes from azulejos, the painted ceramic tiles found across Mexico and Spain. Each bottle is shaped and hand-painted by a team of women artisans in a village in central Mexico, so no two look quite alike. The range has grown into several collections, from the classic tile designs to skull and trophy-head bottles.
The brand has taken Double Gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and more recently entered a partnership with Sugarlands Distilling in Tennessee.
How it's made
The tequila is made in Jalisco from 100% Blue Weber agave, using traditional methods under a master distiller. Copper pot stills are part of the process, a detail the brand honors with its Gran Alambique collection. The finished tequila is filled into the hand-painted ceramic bottles.
Why we carry them
We carry Azulejos because the bottle is a small piece of Mexican folk art, and the tequila inside holds up to it. It makes a memorable gift.
