Their story
Lost Coast was founded in Eureka in 1990 by Barbara Groom and Wendy Pound, after a tour of pubs in England and Wales in the late 1980s. It was one of the earliest women-owned breweries in the country.
What began as a downtown Eureka restaurant grew into a large brewing plant on the south end of town, and by 2012 Lost Coast ranked among the top 50 craft brewers in the U.S. Its bright, cartoonish labels are largely the work of local artist Duane Flatmo.
In 2026 Barbara Groom put the brewery up for sale so she can retire. The restaurant, brewery and brand may be sold separately or together, and the beer continues to be made in the meantime.
How it's made
Lost Coast brews in Eureka, on California's North Coast, and ships its beer to 21 states and 11 countries. The best-known beers are Great White, a cloudy wheat beer, Alleycat Amber and 8-Ball Stout.
Why we carry them
We stock Lost Coast because it is a piece of Northern California beer history that still tastes good. Great White is an easy pick for a warm afternoon.
