Their story
Maisie Jane Bertagna started her business as a teenager in Chico, as a project for her local FFA chapter. In the fall of 1993 she traded her flock of registered sheep for 2,000 pounds of almonds from her family's orchards, and with help from her mother and aunt began selling them.
Four years later she leased a certified kitchen in town and began making organic almonds from her father's certified organic crop. The company opened its own production facility in Chico in 2013 and has now passed its thirtieth year, still rooted in the family's orchards.
How it's made
The almonds come largely from the Bertagna family's own orchards in the Sacramento Valley, including certified organic acreage. They are roasted and seasoned in small batches in Chico, in flavors like tamari and cinnamon glaze, and also ground into nut butters.
Why we carry them
We love that Maisie Jane's almonds come from the same family that grows them. The tamari almonds are a reliable snack for the bag or the bar.
