Mamame

Crunchy tempeh chips made from fermented black-eyed peas.

Founded by
Liz Kang, Alvina Chun

Their story

Mamame is a family business started by Liz Kang, who left a career in media sales, and her mother, Alvina Chun. Their idea was to take tempeh, the fermented bean cake that is Indonesia's national food, and turn it into an everyday snack.

The company launched around 2023, raised $2 million in 2025 to expand, and in 2026 added its first sweet tempeh chips.

How it's made

Black-eyed peas are fermented with a beneficial culture, the same way traditional tempeh is made, then sliced and cooked into chips with coconut oil and tapioca flour. The recipe skips soy and seed oils. Production is in Indonesia, close to the company's ingredient suppliers.

Why we carry them

We like Mamame for a chip with a little more going on. The fermented crunch makes it a smart pick for snack boards.
