Their story

Manos Negras, or "black hands," is named for the stained hands of people who do the work themselves. Co-owners Alejandro Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach have worked side by side in Argentine wine for more than 25 years, and in 2010 they were joined by winemakers Jason Mabbett and Duncan Killiner.

Sejanovich is known for his research into Mendoza's Malbec clones. The project centers on an old-vine finca the team bought in Paraje Altamira and a 7-hectare vineyard he planted in 2009.

How it's made

The team stays involved from bud break to bottling, farming their own vineyards and choosing sites for their character. In the cellar they work gently and with little intervention so each wine shows where it was grown.

Why we carry them

We reach for Manos Negras when we want Malbec with a sense of place. The Paraje Altamira wines show how specific Mendoza can be.
