Their story

Pastificio Marella was founded in 1987 by Domenico Marella in Puglia, and the family business now works out of Gioia del Colle, in the province of Bari. It holds on to the region's pasta traditions while making shapes you rarely see outside southern Italy.

Alongside pasta, the family also makes tarallini, baked goods and traditional Apulian almond sweets.

How it's made

Marella uses durum wheat semolina from local growers, including the heritage Senatore Cappelli variety, and extrudes it through bronze dies for a rough surface that grips sauce. The pasta is dried slowly at low temperature, and several shapes are certified organic.

Why we carry them

We love Marella for shapes like cavatelli and canule that bring a Puglian table home. Toss them with a simple tomato sauce and let the texture do the work.
