Their story

For four generations the Thomas family farmed grapes and distilled eaux-de-vie on a Grande Champagne estate of about 600 acres, quietly selling their spirit to some of Cognac's best-known houses without their name on the bottle.

In 2023 two cousins from the fourth generation, Guillaume Thomas, a former Pernod Ricard executive, and master blender Amaury Thomas, decided to bottle the family's cognac under its own label. Martingale is aimed at drinkers who know whisky and are curious about cognac.

How it's made

Grapes are grown, distilled and aged by the family, grape to glass. The blend draws on four crus, Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Fins Bois and a notable share of Borderies. It is distilled without lees and bottled with no added sugar, caramel or boise.

Why we carry them

We like Martingale for anyone who drinks whisky and hasn't found their way into cognac yet. It's honest, unsweetened and easy to sip neat.
