Their story
The Cartier family has farmed the land at Mas de Gourgonnier, near Mouriès at the southern edge of the Alpilles, since the 18th century. The first vines went in during the 1950s, and today Luc Cartier and his daughter Eve make the wines.
The estate was certified organic in 1975, making it one of the first organic wineries in the region. Alongside about 111 acres of vineyards, the family tends olive groves in the Alpilles foothills within the Les Baux de Provence appellation.
How it's made
Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts; the reds age in tank and oak and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. The olive oil is an unfiltered field blend of four local varieties, Grossane, Verdale, Salonenque and Béruguette, all farmed organically.
Why we carry them
We reach for Gourgonnier when we want Provence in a glass or on a plate. The red is a great value, and the olive oil is green, herbal and made for finishing.
