Their story
Mayenda is made at Casa San Nicolás, a distillery in Arandas in the highlands of Jalisco. Maestro tequilero Jesús Susunaga and his team created the tequila, and the name honors Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of agave.
The brand launched in April 2023 as Campari Group's first tequila built from the ground up, rather than acquired. It started with a Blanco meant for sipping.
How it's made
Mayenda is made from 100% blue agave. Two extra steps set it apart: roasted agave hearts are steeped in the base distillate, and the spirit is blended with agave miel, the syrupy liquid released as the agave cooks. The result leans toward caramelized agave without added sugars.
Why we carry them
This is a blanco we like to pour neat, since the roasted agave comes through clearly. It also makes a very good Paloma.
