Their story
Meletti began in 1870 in Ascoli Piceno, a historic town in Italy's Marche region. Silvio Meletti built his anise liqueur on his mother's homemade preparations and his own study of distilling, and he believed the most aromatic anise grew in the dense clay soils around the town.
The company is still run by the family, generations on. In Ascoli, the Caffè Meletti on Piazza del Popolo pours the anisetta neat, with coffee beans, or with sparkling water as an aperitivo. Beyond anisetta, the family makes amaro, sambuca, limoncello and other liqueurs.
How it's made
The anisetta starts with green anise from the Ascoli area, distilled in batches in a water bath. Aromas from fruits, seeds and flowers are distilled separately and blended in, and the liqueur rests in large steel tanks following the original recipe.
Why we carry them
We love Meletti for an after-dinner pour, and the amaro is a fine bittersweet choice too. Try the anisetta the Ascoli way, with a couple of coffee beans in the glass.
