Their story
Mark Staples and Barbara Miller opened Midnight Sun Brewing in Anchorage in 1995, starting out in an industrial space on Arctic Boulevard that they shared with a taxidermy shop.
In 2009 the brewery moved to a larger home in South Anchorage with a tap house, a restaurant and a loft that hosts monthly art nights with special casks. It is known for big, flavorful beers like Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter, Arctic Devil barleywine and Berserker Imperial Stout. Several of its brewers have gone on to start breweries of their own, including Anchorage Brewing Company.
How it's made
The brewery grew to a capacity of about 10,000 barrels at its South Anchorage site. Alongside year-round beers it brews strong seasonal and specialty releases, including cask-conditioned beers for its First Firkin Fridays.
Why we carry them
Alaskan beer rarely makes it this far south, so this is a fun one to try. The Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter is a great cold-weather pour.
