Their story
Brewer Brian Hunt founded Moonlight Brewing in 1992 in Sonoma County, and the brewery now works out of a business park in northwest Santa Rosa. For most of its life the beer was sold only on draft, which made it a bar-tap favorite in Northern California.
The year-round lineup includes Death and Taxes, a black lager, Reality Czeck, a Czech-style pilsner, and Bombay by Boat IPA. Moonlight tested cans in 2018, added a canning line in 2019, and moved fully to cans for a time during the pandemic before kegs came back.
How it's made
Moonlight focuses on lagers and traditional styles. For its Homegrown Wet Hop Ale, the brewery once grew hops on its original property and now sources fresh hops from nearby Blutcher Valley Hops.
Why we carry them
Death and Taxes is a Bay Area classic, roasty but light on its feet. If you see it, grab it.
