Their story

Mount Gay makes rum in St. Lucy parish, on the northern tip of Barbados, where it has been distilling since 1703. It is often called the oldest rum distillery still in operation.

Trudiann Branker became Master Blender in 2019, the first woman to hold the title at Mount Gay and in Barbados, following Allen Smith. The brand has been part of the French spirits group Rémy Cointreau since 2014, and since 2015 it has owned historic sugar estates on the island, letting it work from cane to bottle.

How it's made

Water comes from the distillery's own well, filtered naturally through the island's coral limestone. Molasses from Barbados and the wider Caribbean is fermented with a house yeast, distilled in copper pot and column stills, and aged in casks that once held American whiskey, bourbon or cognac.

Why we carry them

Mount Gay Eclipse is a classic for a reason and makes a great daiquiri. For sipping, the XO and Black Barrel show how good Barbados rum can be.
