Their story

New York Shuk is run by Ron and Leetal Arazi, a husband-and-wife team of chefs based in Brooklyn. Their pantry line draws on the cooking of North Africa and the Middle East, where nearly every family has its own harissa recipe.

The couple started the company to keep homemade-style harissa alive as mass-produced versions took over store shelves. That chili paste is still the heart of the business, alongside spice blends and other condiments.

How it's made

New York Shuk's harissa blends three types of chili peppers and is made in small weekly batches with a lot of hands-on work. The Arazis skip shortcuts in favor of a recipe that tastes the way it would at home.

Why we carry them

We reach for this harissa to liven up eggs, roasted vegetables and grain bowls. A spoonful goes a long way.
