Their story
Newfound Wines belongs to Matt and Audra Naumann. Matt makes the wine, and Audra runs marketing and sales. The couple bought a ranch in the Sierra Foothills, replanted its neglected vines and began farming it organically, and in 2022 they opened a tasting room in St. Helena in the Napa Valley.
Alongside their own vines, they buy fruit from a handful of growers around the state, including old Chenin Blanc in Napa and old Carignan in Mendocino County. Production is small, and a good share is exported to Canada and Europe.
How it's made
Matt picks at conservative ripeness, uses wild yeasts, and whole-bunch presses his reds, which age in older oak. Many of the blends carry the broad California appellation so they can stay well priced.
We view farming as a connection not just to the land but to the universe
Why we carry them
These are thoughtful California wines from old vines and careful farming. We like them for the table, especially the whites.
