Their story
Weingut Niklas is the Solva family's estate in St. Nikolaus, a hamlet above Kaltern in Alto Adige, where they have made wine since 1969. Dieter Solva runs the cellar, and his sons Michael and Maximilian look after the vineyards.
Kerner is a family story here. Dieter's father, Josef, a vineyard consultant, helped bring the grape to the region in the 1970s, and the estate is said to have some of the oldest Kerner vines in Alto Adige.
How it's made
The family farms about 7 hectares in 17 small parcels on limestone soils. The whites, Kerner included, ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel with no oak and no malolactic fermentation, which keeps them fresh and bright.
Why we carry them
Kerner is not a grape most people know, and this is a lovely introduction: citrusy, herbal and refreshing. Try it with an aperitivo spread.
