Their story

Notarpanaro comes from Cosimo Taurino, a family estate in the heel of Italy, set between the Adriatic and Ionian seas whose breezes help keep the vines healthy. The wine takes its name from a local notary named Panaro, who sold the land to the family's grandfather.

Cosimo's father did well selling blending wine to producers in northern Italy. Cosimo, a pharmacist by training, took over the farm in 1970 and began bottling the estate's own wine. After his death in 1999, his wife Rita, their daughter Rosanna, and her husband Antonio carried the estate forward.

How it's made

Notarpanaro is 100% Negroamaro from about 40 hectares of 40-year-old bush vines trained in the Pugliese alberello style. The grapes are picked in late September, fermented in temperature-controlled steel, then aged about 8 months in used barriques before further rest in steel and glass-lined cement.

Why we carry them

We think this is one of the best ways to taste what Negroamaro can do with some age. Pour it with braised meats or a plate of orecchiette.
