Their story

Oatly started in southern Sweden in 1994, when food scientist Rickard Öste and his brother Björn turned research from Lund University into a company. The goal was a drink made from oats that could stand in for dairy milk.

For years it was a small Swedish brand. Then its oat drinks caught on with coffee shops and baristas, and Oatly grew into one of the best-known plant-based brands in the world. It is headquartered in Malmö, has a production and development center in Landskrona, and has been publicly traded on Nasdaq since 2021.

How it's made

Oatly makes its drinks from oats and water using a process that grew out of Rickard Öste's research at Lund University. Product development happens at its center in Landskrona, Sweden, and the lineup includes barista blends made to steam and foam for coffee.

Why we carry them

We keep Oatly around for coffee because it steams well and tastes clean. It is a reliable dairy-free option for cereal and baking too.
