Their story

Occo was started in New York by Lisa Carson and Connie Wang, who had worked together at a digital communications agency. Both were tired of buying a full jar of a spice for one recipe and watching the rest fade in the cupboard.

They launched the idea on Kickstarter, where more than 1,300 backers chipped in nearly $74,000. The result was a line of pre-measured spice portions that let home cooks try new flavors without waste.

How it's made

Occo seals small, pre-measured portions of spices in airtight pods, which keeps them fresh until opened. Each pod holds about the right amount for a single dish, and the brand pairs them with recipe ideas.

The idea behind Occo is simple: perfect portions of ingredients you may not use again, or any time soon,

Why we carry them

We like Occo for trying a new spice without committing to a whole jar. It is a handy way to cook something new on a weeknight.
