Ojo De Tigre
A gentle, approachable mezcal blending Oaxacan espadín with Pueblan tobalá.
- Founded by
- Moises Guindi, Luis Gerardo Méndez
- Based in
- Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca
Their story
Ojo de Tigre was created as a mezcal for newcomers to the category. Co-founder Moises Guindi worked with Mexican actor and producer Luis Gerardo Méndez and the Casa Lumbre team to build a mezcal with less smoke and more balance than many traditional bottlings.
The liquid is produced at Casa Ausencio León in Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca, using two agaves from two states: espadín from Oaxaca and the rarer tobalá from Puebla.
In 2020 Pernod Ricard took a stake in the brand, adding it to a mezcal portfolio that already included Del Maguey.
How it's made
Espadín and tobalá agaves are roasted in an underground stone pit, crushed with a tahona stone wheel and fermented naturally in wooden vats. The mezcal is then double distilled in copper stills and bottled at 80 proof.
the next stage of our beloved category is one that actively invites more drinkers
Why we carry them
We point people to Ojo de Tigre when they are curious about mezcal but wary of heavy smoke. It works neatly in a margarita or mezcal negroni and is easy to sip on its own.
