Their story
OtherWise Brewing was started in San Francisco in 2021 by Aaron Gervais and Stellar Cassidy. Neither founder avoids gluten, but they saw plenty of people who can't drink regular beer and wanted to give them something that tasted like the real thing.
The brand began as a production brewery and later took over a bar on Polk Street to build a fully gluten-free taproom, down to new beer lines and no outside food. Its flagship beers include Calrose Crisp, a rice lager, and a juicy IPA.
How it's made
OtherWise swaps barley for gluten-free malts made from grains such as rice and millet, which can carry a smaller environmental footprint than barley. The taproom was rebuilt with new beer lines so the beer never touches gluten.
Why we carry them
We like OtherWise for guests who avoid gluten but still want a crisp lager or a proper IPA. It holds up well next to any beer on our shelf.
