Padro & Co

Catalan vermouth from a family winery with deep fortified-wine roots.

Their story

Padró & Co. is the vermouth line of Padró i Família, a family winery in Bràfim, a village in the Tarragona countryside of Catalonia. The Padró family made fortified wines back in the 19th century, around the same time vermouth was taking hold in the region.

Today the family uses its own vineyards and generations of winemaking know-how to make a range of vermouths, from the classic red Rojo Clásico to drier and more bitter styles, at their home, Casa Vermouth Padró.

How it's made

The base wine comes from Macabeo and Xarel·lo grapes grown on the family's vines and is aged in oak casks kept outdoors, where it sees warm days and cool nights. It is macerated with up to 70 botanicals plus citrus from the estate, then rested in different woods and blended with the winery's own fortified wines and mistelas.

Why we carry them

We like Padró for a proper Spanish vermut over ice with an orange slice and olives. It also makes an excellent Negroni.
