Their story
Passionate Wine is the project of Matías Michelini, an agronomist and winemaker who owns and runs it in Tupungato, high in Mendoza's Uco Valley. He makes small lots of wine that try to capture specific places, and he isn't shy about experimenting.
His Via Revolucionaria line, for example, focuses on single vineyards and unusual methods. Del Mono is the friendly, everyday side of the range, with a red and a white.
How it's made
Michelini favors minimal intervention, native yeast fermentation and aging in concrete eggs. The Tinto del Mono co-ferments Malbec and Syrah from hand-picked, sustainably farmed parcels at about 3,700 feet. It ferments in concrete and rests six months in concrete eggs, with light filtration.
Why we carry them
We like Del Mono as an easygoing, fresh take on Mendoza red. The Malbec and Syrah blend works with weeknight dinners and a slight chill.
