Their story

Patrón began with two Americans: architect Martin Crowley and hair care entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria. When Crowley traveled to Mexico, DeJoria asked him to bring back some tequila, and the trip led them to master distiller Francisco Alcaraz in the Jalisco highlands.

The brand launched in 1989 and is made at Hacienda Patrón in Atotonilco El Alto. Bacardi bought a minority stake in 2008 and in 2018 agreed to acquire the company outright, so Patrón is now owned by Bacardi.

How it's made

Patrón uses blue agave from the Mexican highlands, slow cooked in ovens. Part of the agave is crushed with a traditional stone tahona wheel, and the spirit is distilled in small copper pot stills. Francisco Alcaraz oversaw production from the first bottle.

Why we carry them

We keep Patrón on hand because it's a reliable, clean tequila that most guests recognize. The Silver is a solid pick for margaritas.
