Their story
Philippe Auchère makes wine in Bué, a small hamlet tucked into the hills of Sancerre in France's Loire Valley. Before he turned to the vines, he worked as a pastry chef, and that habit of precision carries over into the cellar.
The estate is a small family farm in the old mixed-agriculture sense, with goats alongside the vineyards. It is the kind of place where wine is one part of a working landscape rather than the whole story.
How it's made
The vineyards sit on limestone in a cool climate and are farmed organically, with an eye on keeping the farm's carbon footprint low. Philippe works with a light hand in the cellar, making Sancerre Blanc mainly from Sauvignon Blanc and Sancerre Rouge mainly from Pinot Noir.
Why we carry them
We like Philippe's wines because they taste like classic Sancerre should: bright, mineral and honest. They are a great reminder of what small family growers bring to a famous name.
