Their story
Jason Thomas grew up in Barrow, Alaska, and spent years in outdoor and adventure jobs around the world. On a kitesurfing trip to the Philippines he tasted pili nuts, a rich native nut, and came home with 15 pounds of them. He drove up and down the West Coast in his truck sampling them at natural food stores until a market manager agreed to stock them.
The company started as Hunter Gatherer Natural Foods and is now Pili Hunters, based in Bend, Oregon. After a health scare changed how Jason ate, he decided the traditional deep-fried pili did not fit his values and went back to the Philippines to develop a sprouted version with local partners.
How it's made
The nuts are grown and gathered in the Philippines, where Jason built long-term relationships with local workers and partners. Rather than frying, the team sprouts the nuts, then seasons them simply, from pink Himalayan salt to coconut sugar.
Why we carry them
Pili nuts have a buttery texture unlike any other nut, and we think they are worth discovering. They make a great keto-friendly snack or a cheese board surprise.
