Their story
Plantin was founded in 1930 by Marcel Plantin in Provence, and the house still works from Puyméras in the Vaucluse, close to the region's famous truffle markets. In 1986 Hervé Poron took over and grew the business well beyond France.
Today his son Christopher Poron runs Plantin with longtime friend and partner Nicolas Rouhier, who joined in 2007. They still buy much of their stock at markets like Richerenches and Carpentras, keeping close ties with the hunters and growers of the Drôme and Vaucluse.
How it's made
Truffles are selected by Plantin's in-house truffle masters, who test-cut each one to check quality. Fresh truffles are sold in season, while others are preserved, pasteurized or quick-frozen so they are available all year. Dried mushrooms are hand-sorted after drying, and Australian black truffles fill the gap during the northern summer.
Why we carry them
We turn to Plantin when we want real truffle flavor without guesswork. Their preserved truffles and truffle products make a simple pasta or risotto feel special.
