Their story
Port Askaig is the work of Sukhinder Singh, the London whisky merchant behind Speciality Drinks, the company renamed Elixir Distillers in 2017. Rather than run a distillery, his team picks parcels of Islay single malt they think show the island at its most balanced.
The name comes from the harbor village where the mainland ferry lands, the first stop for many visitors to Islay. The brand launched in 2009 with a cask strength bottling plus 17 and 25 year olds.
The range has since grown to include an 8 year old, a 100 Proof, and older releases at 30 and 45 years.
How it's made
Elixir Distillers selects casks of Islay single malt without naming the source distilleries. Each release is batched individually, bottled without chill filtration, and has no added color.
Why we carry them
We reach for Port Askaig when someone wants Islay smoke with some restraint. The younger bottlings are a friendly way into the island's style.
