Their story

Produttori del Barbaresco is a growers' cooperative in the village of Barbaresco, in Piedmont. Its roots go back to 1894, when Domizio Cavazza set up the Cantina Sociale di Barbaresco, an early home for dry Barbaresco wine.

That first cellar did not last, but in 1958 the parish priest, Don Fiorino Marengo, gathered 19 growers to bring the cooperative back. Today more than 50 member families farm around 100 hectares of Barbaresco vineyard and bring their grapes to the shared cellar.

How it's made

All of the wine is Nebbiolo. The classic Barbaresco blends fruit from members' parcels, while in strong years the cellar bottles single-vineyard Riservas from sites such as Asili, Rabaja and Montestefano. Wines have long macerations in steel and age in large Slavonian oak casks.

Why we carry them

We think the Produttori bottling is one of the best ways to get to know Barbaresco. The Riservas are worth a look for anyone curious about single-vineyard Nebbiolo.
