Prohibition Spirits
Sonoma husband-and-wife distillery behind Hellocello and Hooker's House.
- Founded by
- Fred Groth, Amy Groth
- Based in
- Sonoma, California
Their story
Prohibition Spirits belongs to Fred and Amy Groth, who came to Sonoma in 2008 and released their first spirit, Hellocello Limoncello di Sonoma, the following year. Their distillery was billed as the first in Sonoma since Prohibition.
The range grew from there to include Figcello, Chauvet brandies named for an early Sonoma Valley distiller, Hooker's House whiskeys, Jack's Gin and a dark rum. Their tasting room sits at Cornerstone Sonoma.
How it's made
Many spirits draw on local produce, such as Figcello made with Black Mission figs from around Sonoma and gins made with local herbs. Brandies and whiskeys are aged in barrels from neighboring wineries and the distillery's own bourbon barrels, and the bourbon rests in a solera.
Why we carry them
We like Prohibition Spirits as a true wine country distillery just up the road. The Hellocello makes a nice after-dinner pour or a gift for visitors.
