Their story

Quincy Street Distillery is the project of Derrick Mancini, a physicist with a Ph.D. who spent years as a researcher at Argonne National Laboratory. He opened it on East Quincy Street in downtown Riverside, Illinois, a block from his own home.

Mancini pitched the idea to village officials in 2011 and started production in 2012, at first running the still on evenings and weekends. The first releases were Water Tower White Lightning, an unaged corn whiskey, and Old No. 176 Gin, followed later by a speakeasy-style tasting bar.

How it's made

Mancini cooks his own mashes and distills them in a copper still on site. The early range covered white whiskey and gin, with plans for barrel-aged whiskey, bourbon, brandy, eau de vie and absinthe.

It doesn't hurt that it's a block from my house.
Derrick Mancini, founder, to Riverside-Brookfield Landmark (2012)

Why we carry them

We like the curiosity a scientist brings to the still. Quincy Street is a good way to explore small-batch Midwest spirits.
