QuiQuiRiQui
Traditional Oaxacan mezcal brought to the world by a Londoner.
- Founded by
- Melanie Symonds
Their story
QuiQuiRiQui is the work of Melanie Symonds, a Londoner with no background in drinks who fell for mezcal on a trip to Mexico in 2011. She came home with a loose plan to open a mezcal bar in East London, and it grew into a brand instead.
QuiQuiRiQui was among the first mezcals exported to England. It works directly with Oaxacan families who have made mezcal in their communities for generations, and the brand sees its role as helping keep that knowledge alive.
How it's made
Each expression comes from a single palenque in Oaxaca. Agave hearts are roasted for several days in earthen pits lined with volcanic rock, then crushed and left to ferment naturally before distillation.
Why we carry them
We like mezcal that keeps the producing families at the center. The Espadín is an easy starting point before you explore wilder agaves.
