- St. Philip, Barbados
Their story
R.L. Seale's carries the name of Reginald Leon Seale, whose family rum business in Barbados dates to the 1920s. Four generations on, the company is run by Sir David Seale and his son Richard, who leads the distilling.
In 1995 the family took over an abandoned sugar factory in St. Philip, refitted it with custom stills, and began making rum there in 1996 as Foursquare Distillery. R.L. Seale's is one of Richard's flagship bottlings, easy to spot in its dark, asymmetrical bottle.
How it's made
The rum is a blend of pot and column still spirit, fermented in two stages with a distiller's yeast. Casks are filled at high strength and every rum is aged at least two years, with no flavoring additives used.
Why we carry them
We point rum lovers to Foursquare when they want to taste what honest, additive-free Barbados rum is like. R.L. Seale's is a friendly way in.
