Their story

Rancho Meladuco is a family date farm in Southern California's Coachella Valley. Joan Smith's family had grown dates on their ranch for years, and friends and relatives kept urging them to sell the fruit.

Joan, a former accountant and mother of three, decided to become a date farmer herself when her youngest turned four. She launched Rancho Meladuco with her husband in 2015.

How it's made

The family grows mostly Medjool dates and packs them by hand, choosing only soft, moist fruit they sell as fresh dates. They also buy from neighboring growers in their small farming community, and offer organic, seedless and heirloom options.

Why we carry them

We love these soft, caramel-like dates on a cheese board or stuffed with nuts. The heirloom medley is a fun way to taste varieties you rarely see.
