Recess is the work of Benjamin Witte, a New York founder who wanted a drink built around calm rather than caffeine.
He launched the brand in New York in 2018 with a sparkling water combining hemp extract and adaptogenic herbs, positioned as a way to take a short break from a stressful day. The name says it all: a canned drink for the moment you step away and reset.
How it's made
The original Recess cans paired a custom fruit and herb flavor with hemp extract and a blend of American ginseng, L-theanine and schisandra. The drinks are lightly carbonated and meant to be sipped like any sparkling water.
