Renzo Castella

Family Dolcetto and Nebbiolo from the hills between Diano and Serralunga.

Based in
Diano d'Alba, Piedmont

Their story

The Castella family farms vineyards in Diano d'Alba, a hilltop village in Piedmont's Langhe whose slopes run up to the border with Serralunga d'Alba in the Barolo zone. They have worked these vines since the early 1900s, passing the know-how down through generations.

Diano is one of the few places in Italy with its own DOCG for Dolcetto, and the estate is best known for that grape along with Langhe Nebbiolo, such as its Madonnina bottling.

How it's made

The family farms organically, without herbicides or pesticides, on steep hillsides with limestone-rich soils. Winemaking is traditional, aimed at wines that show their site, with fruit that can be enjoyed young or cellared.

Why we carry them

Renzo Castella offers a taste of the Barolo hills without Barolo prices. The Nebbiolo is a great weeknight red with real character.
