Republic Restoratives
A women-owned craft distillery in the heart of Washington, D.C.
- Founded by
- Pia Carusone, Rachel Cole Gardner

- Washington, D.C.
Their story
Republic Restoratives is the project of Pia Carusone and Rachel Cole Gardner, lifelong friends who came to spirits from other careers, Carusone from politics and strategic consulting and Gardner from sustainable natural resource development.
In 2015 they set up a distillery and cocktail bar on New York Avenue in Ivy City, a former industrial neighborhood a few miles from the Capitol. They raised early funds through a crowdfunding campaign that beat its first goal within a week, which paid for barrels, tanks and their first bottles.
The first releases were a vodka and a bourbon, made with an experienced master distiller on staff.
How it's made
The founders installed a large custom still in their Ivy City space and brought on veteran master distiller Berle "Rusty" Figgins Jr. to run production. Whiskeys are aged in new American white oak barrels on site.
Why we carry them
We like supporting small distillers who built something from the ground up. Republic Restoratives brings a bit of D.C. character to the home bar.
