Their story
Rey Campero is a family collective led by Romulo Sanchez Parada in Candelaria Yegolé, a small village in the municipality of Zoquitlán, high in Oaxaca's Sierra Sur. The district is home to several well-known maestro mezcaleros.
The family brings decades of combined experience to the work, and their land along the Río Quiechapa holds some of the most varied agave nurseries in Oaxaca.
How it's made
The family grows Espadín, Tepextate and Jabalí side by side in their own nurseries, letting some plants flower and go to seed while harvesting the rest. Wild agaves from the nearby slopes and canyons round out a range that includes Cuishe, Madrecuishe, Coyote and Sierra Negra.
Why we carry them
Rey Campero is a great way to taste how much agave variety matters. Try the Espadín next to one of the wild expressions.
