Their story

Saint Benevolence grew out of a long friendship between Calvin Babcock, an American real estate developer, and Rev. Gueillant Dorcinvil, whose family has made rum in Saint Michel for three generations. The two started the nonprofit Living Hope Haiti together in 2002, and Calvin's son Chase later persuaded the reverend to bottle the family rum.

The brand launched in 2017 with a mission built in: it supports cancer care and women's health programs in Haiti, along with an air ambulance service, and provides health care and schooling for its Haitian team and their families.

How it's made

Local co-op farmers grow and hand cut heirloom cane varieties such as Cristalline and Madame Meuze. Fresh juice ferments with wild yeast for 8 to 10 days, and some juice is cooked down to syrup first, a local method. Everything is distilled in two small handmade copper pot stills, then shipped to Florida for aging, blending, and bottling.

Why we carry them

We love pouring clairin for rum fans who think they have tried it all. Saint Benevolence is grassy and lively, and each bottle does some good back home in Haiti.
